A walk in the Snow

I knew there would be a waterfall at the end of this trail but what I really wanted to see was the green moss peeking out from underneath the snow.

Scott and I have hiked this trail a couple of times before in the summertime when we were camping nearby. Scott had been here a couple of weeks ago with a friend and thought that I would enjoy it so here we were.

Goat Creek is a little ways past Greenwater, Washington in Forest Service Road 7174  and 7176. It isn’t much of a hike. At just a one-mile round trip it’s more of a nice walk with a couple of hills, and trees to climb over. The tricky part in the winter is driving the unpaved forest service road covered in snow. It isn’t a long stretch, but you really should have 4-wheel drive and some ground clearance.

It had warmed up since Scott had been there a couple of weeks ago. The huge icicles he had seen were much smaller now but still there. The snow covered most of the ground with just a little green poking out as I’d hoped.

We enjoyed the peaceful walk. I love the sound of a creek flowing through the rocks! We practically had the place to ourselves. I think we saw maybe three other people the whole time we were there.

We reached the end with the waterfall and stopped to take a few pictures and enjoy the scenery. While we were there it began to snow big fat thick flakes. We were in the middle of winter again.

When we reached the truck, we were ready for the thermos of coffee and PBJ’s we’d packed. A one-mile hike takes a lot longer when I’m stopping for a picture every few feet.

On to the next adventure.
