Enjoying Fall in My Hometown
The parks, the waterfront, and my neighborhood. These are places I enjoy in my hometown all year, but in the fall, they really put on a show.
Tacoma has some awesome parks.
Point Defiance Park has 760 acres of gardens, untouched forests and a waterfront. It’s a great place to visit anytime of the year. In the fall the color is scattered throughout the park and changes from week to week.
Wright Park is a 27-acre park filled with huge mature deciduous trees. Autumn is my favorite time to visit this park. The trees really put on a show.
Another park I like is Wapato Park. There isn’t quite as much fall color as the previous two, but it’s still in very nice, and has a great playground and place to walk.
Large pieces of our waterfront have been lined with maple trees. This gives them even better views in the fall. From Ruston way, Theas Landing, and Titlow Beach, there are many choices for a walk under the autumn leaves. It’s absolute perfection on a sunny day, but some of my favorite times are when the leaves are cutting through a thick layer of fog. It feels magical.
One of my favorite activities of fall is to go on a “leaf walk” in my neighborhood. Several years ago, the city planted trees in my neighborhood that really put on a show in the fall. Outside of the parks, it’s the best place in town to see fall color. And I just have to open my front door! So every time we get a sun break, I find myself going for a walk and coming home with a leaf or two (or three) that I just couldn’t resist collecting on the way.
