The Seattle Bremerton Ferry
Most of our adventures begin with a great cup of coffee and this was no exception. Scott and I were ready for an adventure but only had 1 day to get away. Since the weather report looked good, we decided to hop onto the Washington State Ferry in Bremerton and catch a few sights.
The plan was to walk on the ferry to Seattle and return on the next ferry to Bremerton, so we parked our car and bought our tickets. We had a little time to kill so naturally went in search of coffee.
We found a local coffee shop and decided to walk around the waterfront with our coffee while we waited. I always enjoy looking at the boats in the marina.
When we boarded the ferry, we went right to the top deck with our cameras. It was very windy, but there was so much to see! The boats, the town, the birds, and the mountains. The snow-covered Olympic Mountains were just peeking out from underneath the clouds. The sky was supposed to clear a bit as the day went on, so we hoped the view might be even better on the return trip.
Eventually when our fingers began to feel numb, we decided we needed to warm up inside at a window seat. During the week the ferries are in high demand. Commuter traffic and ball games make them very crowded. Being a Saturday with no sporting events going on, there were lots of seats available. So, we opened the thermos of coffee we’d brought and enjoyed the view in heated comfort.
When we approached Seattle, we headed back outside to take a few more pictures. If it were a warmer day, it would have been a great opportunity to explore the Seattle waterfront. Today though, we didn’t feel like walking around, so we just headed back.
We were treated to stellar views of the Olympics on the return trip. The clouds had indeed cleared a bit, and we were back outside with our cameras. We really do live in an incredible area!
We finished the day with a bowl of chowder from a nearby seafood restaurant. It was sooo good, and just what we needed to warm ourselves back up.
On to the next adventure!
