5 Things You Must See in the Palouse.

If you haven’t been to visit the Palouse, you should! And spring is a great time to do it. It’s beautiful in the summer and fall, but in the late spring and early summer there is a little green to go along with the golden brown that really makes it even more striking. Here are some of our favorite things to see.

As always, you can see our gallery here, and purchase images from our store here.

1. Palouse falls

Palouse Falls State Park features one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the region. The gorgeous views are easily accessible from the top near the parking lot. The trail to the bottom has been closed due to erosion, but the more adventurous can kayak up river to the falls (approximately 5 miles) from Lyons Ferry State Park.

2.  Steptoe Butte

This state park near Colfax, WA allows you to see the rolling hills of the Palouse like you’ve never seen them before. The 360 ° views from the butte are stunning in every direction. For the best photos, plan to be there shortly after sunrise or in the hour or two before sunset when the shadows are long and give the most definition to the hills.

3.  Rust

You never know what you will find in a field or along the side of the road. This is what Scott especially likes to find. These look like they’ve been hanging around for awhile.

4.   Barns and Buildings

Every farm needs a barn, and the Palouse has many on display. Red barns, wooden barns, and sometimes falling down barns. The perfect complement to the rolling hills.
