Fall Reflections of Mount Shuksan and Picture Lake

I was staring at the stunning Mount Shuksan perfectly reflected in Picture Lake when I realized that the battery in my camera was nearly depleted, and I didn’t have a backup.

We arrived Picture Lake in the Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forrest shortly after lunch. I knew that the light on the mountain would be better in the afternoon than in the morning, which gave us plenty of time to get there.

The view was spectacular, and my camera came out almost immediately. A few shots later, my battery was DEAD. That’s okay. That’s why I have a backup. I put the backup battery in the camera and….. It had very little juice left. Apparently, I had used it up my last time out and had forgotten to recharge it. I was going to have to be very selective with my shots and conserve the battery as much as possible.

So, I accepted that while I was in a prime location at a prime time, I may not come away with prime images. And that was okay. The enjoyment of the company and the location were more than enough.

I somehow managed to get several shots that I’m very pleased with. I wish that I could have played around with different viewpoints a little more. Maybe next time. With fully charged batteries.
