September Sunrises
Sunrise season is upon us! Well at least the season when I like to watch the sunrise.
We live in an area where more often than not the sunrise is completely obstructed by cloud cover. In the summer when we have some clear skies, the sun rises so early (5:15AM) that you have to really love early mornings in order to get yourself up to see one. Especially when you consider that you really need to be in place 30 minutes BEFORE sunrise in order to see the good color. Add in getting up, getting ready, and driving to a location, and you’re getting up around 4 AM. Not something I’m volunteering to do very often.
September is another story. We still (usually) have some clear (Ish) skies, but the sun doesn’t rise until 6:30 AM – 7:00 AM. This is not only more do-able it’s much more enjoyable. As an extra bonus, it’s early enough we can watch the sunrise and still get to work on time.
Sometimes we’ve seen amazing color across the sky. Sometimes just a glow on the horizon. Always we enjoy the quiet and the clean air.
We’re always in the hunt for new locations, but we have some standby favorites. Tacoma has some fantastic places on the waterfront that are hard to beat. We especially like The Dunes near Point Ruston, and a few points along the north end of Ruston Way where the mountain is visible.
So, in September we’ll be setting the alarm, grabbing the coffee, and enjoying some early morning.
On to the next adventure.
