A walk in the Snow
I knew there would be a waterfall at the end of this trail but what I really wanted to see was the green moss peeking out from underneath the snow.
Scott and I have hiked this trail a couple of times before in the summertime when we were camping nearby. Scott had been here a couple of weeks ago with a friend and thought that I would enjoy it so here we were.
Hunting for Moss and Ferns and Maybe a Waterfall
It’s Friday night and Scott and I were trying to decide where to go adventure the next day. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve gotten out of town, and we were ready to go! After exploring a few locations on our computers, we decided to check out an area near Lake Wynoochee in the Olympic National Forest. It looked like there may be several waterfalls to check out along with some forest trails thick with moss and ferns. We had a general location but couldn’t really locate a good map. Finding what we’re looking for could prove to be a challenge, but we were up for it.
City Lights, Light Trails, and a few Raindrops
It can be hard to leave home in the evening when it’s dark and rainy outside. Most nights we find indoor activities much more appealing. It’s easy to go outside to take pictures when it’s sunny or snowy. When it’s rainy and gray……Not so much,
Eventually we feel the need to get out. So where do we go? Well, after getting our coffee, we go in search of lights.
February Sunrises
February is one of my favorite months to watch the sunrise. Why is this? The weather may not always cooperate, but the time of day that the sun comes up is about as good as it gets.
Mount Shuksan in the Snow
Scott and I visited Picture Lake and Mount Shuksan a couple of years ago in the fall and the views were stunning. Jagged mountain peaks surrounded by vivid red and gold foliage. A clear lake with a perfect reflection. It was spectacular. Take a look at the banner on our web site’s home page and you’ll see what I mean.
Ever since then, I’ve wanted to go back in the winter. I’ve wanted to see what these gorgeous, jagged peaks would look like covered in snow and surrounded by blue sky.
Winter Sunshine in Tacoma
We woke up on a Saturday to one of those rare days (most years) where the sun is shining in the middle of winter! When this happens there are so many things we want to see and do. But on this particular day, we only had a few hours to spare so we need to stay close to home. Not to worry, there are lots of great things to see in the Tacoma area.
The Seattle Bremerton Ferry
Most of our adventures begin with a great cup of coffee and this was no exception. Scott and I were ready for an adventure but only had 1 day to get away. Since the weather report looked good, we decided to hop onto the Washington State Ferry in Bremerton and catch a few sights.
Winter Storms on the Washington Coast
I’m soaked and my hands are getting numb despite my gloves and the rain poncho I’m wearing over my heavy coat. But the waves are spectacular as they come crashing into shore. It isn’t a king tide that can bring the really giant waves. It’s just a winter storm on the Washington Coast. High tide is nearly here, and I try to hold out a little longer to get a few more shots. Then in the distance I see the ships exiting the Columbia River, crossing the bar and entering the Pacific Ocean.
